Using the Library: Technology

Technology

For students interested in borrowing technology for the semester or looking for technology support with borrowed equipment, please visit our Student Technology page.

CSM Library has over 30 PC desk top computers and 2 Macs available for public use. Students are encouraged to use USB flash drives, email, or cloud storage to retrieve and save documents. The technical specs for our computers includes:

  • Windows 11
  • Internet access
  • Options to print to any of our print release stations
  • No time limit or required login
  • Privacy wipe at the end of each session after restart
  • All PC computers are loaded with the following software:
    • Browsers: Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge
    • Adobe Suite: Acrobat DC, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom, Photoshop
    • Microsoft Suite: Access, Excel, Powerpoint, & Word
    • Accessibility programs: JAWS 2020, Kurzweil 3000, ZoomText 2020
    • Video/conferencing: VLC Media Player, Zoom
    • Additional programs: QuickBooks Premier & File Manager, MakerBot, Pearson Sign In, Ultimaker Cura 3.6.0
  • Note that students are not able to download third party software on library computers

WiFi

WiFi is free at CSM Library and supports most mobile devices, such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Students or Guests can use the “SMCCCD_Public" network. The “SMCCCD_Public" network is open and does not require a password. For more information about how to access WiFi on campus visit our WiFi FAQs.

Other Equipment

CSM Library has a WEPA printing station, KIC scanner/book scanner (including scan to email or USB), and an e-image Datab ScanPro microform viewer (microfiche and microfilm) available for use. The library does not have a photocopier or fax machine.
