Getting Started

Getting Started

We have compiled a few resources to help you explore to determine what support you may need. It can be difficult to know what to request. We have developed a graphic to understand where you are in the course design process and where an instructional designer may be able to support. It is important to note that design work takes planning and is usually not completed in 1 session. We have included a description of how to get started with the your needs in 3 steps.

Step #1 Understand Your Collaborative Role

Step #2 Determine the Type of Support You Need (4 Ds)

  • Design: Pre-course planning that involves submitting the Course Outline of Record, which serves as the framework of the course, and re-designing course components. You will likely work with the Distance Education Coordinator and an Instructional Designer, as part of the Curriculum Committee.
  • Development: Course design continues with pre-course development. You can collaborate with an instructional designer to develop the details of your course and ensure alignment of course outcomes, assessment, and student-centered experiences in any delivery modality.
  • Delivery: During the semester, your careful planning comes to life! Instructional technologists can assist with drop-in technology support and instructional designers can observe class or review aspects of your course to provide feedback on desired topics.
  • Debrief: Reflective evaluation takes place after the semester, where the course instructor and instructional designer can reflect on what worked and what areas are in need of further attention and development. The cycle starts again!
